Vision Pro gains foveated streaming and video podcast upgrades in visionOS 26.4
visionOS 26.4 is rolling out to Vision Pro owners, and its single biggest change is support for a new technology: ‘foveated streaming.’
Foveated streaming provides app developers new capabilities that weren’t possible before. From Apple’s developer documentation:
It may take some time for developers to add support. But during the visionOS 26.4 beta cycle, we’ve already seen plenty of excitement from the developer community.
Here are a few examples to check out:
- ‘World’s most advanced flight simulator’ will soon work with Apple Vision Pro
- iRacing on Vision Pro bringing ‘immersion and fidelity never before seen in sim racing’
- Nvidia details CloudXR for visionOS 26.4, enabling ‘Immersive for Autodesk VRED’ app
Hopefully these early examples of foveated streaming in visionOS apps is only scratching the surface of what developers will enable moving forward.
Beyond foveated streaming support, another key visionOS 26.4 feature involves Apple Podcasts.
Apple Podcasts is getting a new, enhanced video podcast experience starting with the latest update.
For podcasts that add video support, you’ll be able to switch seamlessly between video and audio versions of episodes, download videos offline, and more.
Finally, Apple has added eight new emoji across its various platforms, including visionOS.
